Shannon and Jennifer’s story is rooted in experience and guided by the very values that define Brave Heart Maternity Home.

Their friendship spans more than eleven years and began through shared experiences with unplanned pregnancies at a young age, experiences that shaped their understanding of how vulnerable and isolating pregnancy can feel without adequate support. That early journey instilled in them a lasting belief in belonging: that every mother and child deserve a safe place to call home, free from judgment and instability.

As their careers progressed in the behavioral health field, Shannon and Jennifer encountered countless pregnant women navigating poverty, housing instability, domestic violence, and complex systems of care. Time and again, they saw women striving for change yet blocked by the absence of safe, supportive housing during pregnancy. These experiences reinforced their belief in redemption: that no life is beyond the possibility of positive change, and that with the right supports, women and families can reclaim stability, dignity, and hope for healthier futures.

Rather than accepting these gaps as inevitable, Shannon and Jennifer felt compelled to address them directly. Their work is rooted in advocacy: walking alongside women as they navigate healthcare, child welfare, recovery, and housing systems so they are never left to face these challenges alone.

Their lived experience and professional backgrounds also taught them the importance of vulnerability in healing. Shannon and Jennifer understand that lasting change requires spaces where women can be honest about their struggles without fear of judgment, and where emotional courage is met with respect and support.

Above all, their work is grounded in empathy. They listen first. They honor each woman’s story, recognizing that every path into crisis is different, and every path forward deserves compassion, dignity, and individualized care.

Together, Shannon and Jennifer founded Brave Heart Maternity Home. Brave Heart exists to ensure that pregnant women facing crisis have access to safe housing, practical support, and a nurturing community, empowering them to take brave steps toward healing, stability, and a healthier future for themselves and their children.
